Motor skills: he walks; he runs and climbs on everything he can find on his way! He gets a lot of bruise, but he cries only when it is really painful or when he is very tired, therefore practically never!
He can go in the bath on his own, climb the stairs without help and the slide’s ladder too.
For a week now, he can go down his high chair on his own.
He loves to jump on the trampoline at Fiona’s and goes on the slide in the park.
He dances on Gwen Stefani, Nelly Fertado and Manu Chao (in reality he turns on himself until he loses his balance!), he tries to clicking his fingers, but doesn’t manage yet.
Language skills: he says only “Papa”, “Maman”, “No”, “Bye bye”, “nono” (for his favourite soft toy), “Nana” (for Fiona and/or Sabrina), he said only once “itelle” after Marc told him “Christelle”, “Memo” (for Nemo the fish which are his sleepers), “My” (for “mine”).
A week ago, he said for the first time “loo” (for "look) and “hello”
Even if he doesn’t speak much, he understands everything and in all the languages. If we ask, he can throw something in the bin, to get his shoes to go for a walk, give back his brush tooth when he finished brushing his teeth (instead of leaving it on the floor!!)…
It is amazing to see that he understands everything, even if he doesn’t say anything, but it will happen soon enough.
But on the other hand, in sound effects aspect, he is rather good, he does the dog, the cat, duck, chicks, the cow, the elephant, the pig, fish and rabbit (ok, the last two don’t make any noise, but he does the faces which go with them). He doesn’t do the noise of the pig and chicks at the good time, but at least he is able to do them.
Manual skills: at Fiona’s, he cooked: he made a cheese pie and blackberries jam pie which we had the pleasure to eat in the same evening. He learn how to glue some died leaves on a piece of paper, did some painting and he liked it!
Social skills: he doesn’t have any problem. He has two small girlfriends at Fiona’s with which he loves to give kisses. He knows how to pretend to laugh or cry to make you laugh. He likes to do a lot of cuddles, but only when He wants! He loves going to Toddler group with Fiona. Apparently, he likes to look at a child playing with a toy and when the child finished, he takes it to play and tries to make the same thing.
He loves to run after the girls, but also likes to be run after, with the result that one doesn’t know very well who runs after who.
Learning skills: he manages to put objects of various forms in the adapted holes, but only if we indicates the hole to him (except the circle). At Fiona’s, he likes to play pretending food, empty the boxes of toys and leave a trail of them behind him. He throws the ball very well. He loves to play with cars, train, and tractor… like a proper boy.
Food wise: He eats everything in big quantity. We didn’t find one thing yet that he refuses and which is for his age (we haven’t make him taste tripe yet!!)
He loves cherry tomatoes like he mum and it is a fight now to be able to eat some before he finishes them all
Sleep wise: he sleeps 10-12h per night without waking up or then he goes back to sleep on his own (except if it is a nightmare, but they are rare). For the nap, it is rather particular. With Fiona, he sleeps 1h30-2h the afternoon, with his father, he sleeps 2h the morning and 2h the afternoon and with me, he sleeps 1h or not at all the morning and 3h the afternoon!!
Health: he hasn’t been sick much. He has essentially some cold and since he is born, he had one bronchiolitis and one gastroenteritis.
He was diagnosed with asthma in June. We gave him a basic treatment and since the end of August, we stopped the drugs. He doesn’t seem to cough at night or when he runs any more, except when he is sick. When he has a cold and that he can breathe properly, we make him inhale a drug with a mask (which is not easy!)
He has 8 incisive, 4 premolars and 3 canines (the fourth is coming soon). He does all his teeth per package of 4 (except the first two incisive and the 3 canines!), and each time he has a really bad nappy rash (someone will have to explain to me the connection). But except with his nappy rashes, he is adorable when he is teething.
Here we go, I think I said everything about our little man. He is a baby (can I still call him a baby?) adorable with his own character. He knows what he wants and it is better to also know what he wants if not it is not easy!

Arthur's progress
Par bloucox le mardi, mai 22 2007, 22:56
Here is the recent tribulations of our little one.
Development of his language:
One night (between the 4th and the 5th of May, this detail is for me) Arthur woke up shouting “Maman”, as if he did a nightmare. I went in his bedroom to comfort him. There was a glass of water on the edge of the window that I gave to him because quiet often he is thirsty at night. He pushed it away with his hand. So I sat down on the stool to cuddle him. Suddenly, he showed me with his finger the place where I put the glass by saying “Hein!!” So I gave him the glass, he drank it rapidly and then pushed it away while saying “No”. It was the first time that Arthur make himself understand so well. It was 1 am! Thank you my son to make progress at this time of day! It makes us looking forward to get up to deal with you!
Last Monday (the 14th!), in the morning while leaving for work, I left Arthur in Marc's arms and I said "Au revoir", he answered to me waving with his hand and he added “Au Ah”, that sounded like a “Au revoir”. Very proud Marc said to him: “Ciao”, he looked at his father and said “Bye bye”! What a clown!
In the same register, this morning I said to him goodbye whereas he is in Marc's arms. He asked to come in my arms, therefore I took him and he looked at his father by making and saying “Bye bye”, it was very cute, but less when he understood he wasn't going to come with me at work!
The liquid week:
From the 8th to the 13th of May Arthur had tummy bug. I won't get into details, but between vomits and the diarrhoea we were quite busy. The poor little one was poorly, but he didn't lose his smile.
Arthur and food: :
Arthur eats everything, but last Friday after his nap while going in the kitchen, he pointed to the fruit basket. So I took a nectarine which I wash and I gave him in whole. He started to crunch it with his teeth (8 since yesterday!!). Since then, each time he sees the fruit basket, he does the same thing, but as we don't have nectarine any more we gave him an apple or a pear, it doesn't work that well. But, he is asking for fruits instead of biscuit, I won't complain!
Sunday he tried his first waffle which he ate all, like his father.
Progress in movement :
He can climb the sofa, but to go down was more problematic. Now he finally understood after showing him ten time that putting the feet ahead was much easier! And he also does it to go down from the bed, and the staircases (supervised by an adult obviously!), that will decrease his bump average per week!
He walks while holding hands, even only one hand, but doesn't want to let go. If we try, he sit down straight away and crawls towards the destination of his choice. He knows what we wants him to do, but doesn't want to do it. Stubborn! I wonder where he got that from;)
Mister has a lot of character:
He starts to make crises each time we say no to him. When he is sitting on the floor, he throw himself violently on the floor, by clapping hishands on the floor. It's going to be fun! We ignore him, he stops 30 seconds later obviously.
When he knows that he doesn't have the right to do something, he does it while saying no at the same time! And he thinks that will work!
Here we go, you can see that we are far from being bored with this naughty boy!

Week end in Strasbourg
Par bloucox le mardi, janvier 23 2007, 19:21 - Week-end
The week end which just passed we went to Strasbourg for two reasons:
- Our friend Jose (and Marc's witness at our wedding if you were there) birthday party
- The birth of our common niece: Mazarine.
But before that we had to arrive in Strasbourg. We were supposed to take the plane Thursday (the 18th of January in case you are not following!) evening. For that we took our half day off. All that morning there was a lot of wind, so we decided that we should leave the house quite in advance in case there would be some traffic (2 hours ahead of schedule, this detail is important).
We were right, we had to stop three times because of traffic jam, until we arrived at the junction of the M25 with the M11 which goes to the airport. The M11 was closed!!! Because we didn't have a detailed map of England, we stayed on the motorway to take the next exit. 20 minutes after we were stopped in a big traffic jam: 8 miles in 1h!!!!
We gave up when we went out of the traffic because we were at 30 minutes away from the airport, but the checking was closing in 5 minutes.
We stopped to a services area to walk a bit, and buy a detailed map of England
We went home in one and a half hours (without any problem), we had just spent 6 and half hours in the car!! And during the time Arthur has been an angel. When we arrived at home at 8.30 pm I booked a single ticket for the next morning at 7 am!! Which means: wake up at 3.30 am to leave at 4 am. So obviously we went to bed straight away. We can call this kind of afternoon was a F...... afternoon!
But we made it to Strasbourg!!
The Friday, then, we went to see Mazarine. She is so cute! She barely cries and when she does, she sounds like a kitten who's meowing.
In the evening, we went to sleep to my brother Jerome and my sister-in-law's new flat that they just bought. It's really big and spacious. They are really well settle in it.
My nephew Iago who's 2 and half years old didn't want his mummy to look after Arthur and at one point he said to Sylvie while she was holding Arthur: “Thraw that!!”, but he played a lot with him and it was funny to see them playing together.
Saturday lunch time, we went to see our friends JB and Mimi (Jean-Baptiste and Myriam for their real names) who were leaving in Poland at one point: melted Mont d'or (a stinky cheese) on patatoes. DELICIOUS!
At the end of the afternoon, we went to my parent's house to get ready for Jose's surprise birthday party (which wasn't a surprise after all). The party was taking place at l'Escale (a social and cultural building) in La Robertsau (a neighbourhood in Strasbourg) near my parent's, so we went there with Arthur, this way our friend were able to see him and we brought him back to my parent's at around 9pm for them to look after him while we were still partying. He was knacked because he didn't have any nap the all afternoon, but he was really smiley and enjoyable and obviously he had no problem to fall asleep at my parent's place.
We spent a lovely evening. There was a really good buffet, we dance a lot and we saw a lot of friends we didn't see for a long time and also met some people we never saw before.
Went to bed at 4 am, the next morning was pretty hard for Marc. My father wanted to take care of Arthur, but he didn't know how to deal with the washable nappies so Marc wake up to show him, then he didn't know what to give him for breakfast, so Marc did it. Remark for next time: teach the grand parents to sleep longer!
For lunch, my mum made a Choucroute for me (a typical Alsacien dish). My sister Veronique, her daughter Melanie-Dior and my grand mother joined us. We drank coffee with my friend (and also witness to our wedding) Aurelie and her mother. They almost missed Arthur who slept for 3 and half hours!! A record for him, he slept for the day and the day before!
In the evening, we had dinner at Marc's parents house with his three sisters and their respective boyfriends (if you are following the Leroux-Carlucci saga, my brother Pierre-Emmanuel and his children was there too). So we saw Mazarine again a little bit! For dinner we had home made pasta and some meat ball. A real dietetic weekend!!
Monday lunch time, we ate at our friends Marie-Salome and Robert house with their daughter Camille. Simple menu, but delicious. There too Arthur had a long nap so when he woke up it was time to go back to Gambsheim (a small village where Marc's parents live!) to pack and have dinner.
The way back home passed without any problem with a little Arthur really excited instead of sleeping. He was partying in the plane with one steward and the air hostess. He slept well in the car back home!!
Here we go our long week end, but too short when we are going to Strasbourg. We didn't see half of the people we wanted to see like Cedric and Stephanie, my neighbours, Phil and Isa, Slim and Laurence, Christophe and Elizabeth, Cecile and Cedric... three days it's too short, but with this daily rhythm it's enough to not come back home died!!

8 months
Par Marc le vendredi, décembre 1 2006, 22:07
Arthur turned 8 months today.
Currently he got a bad cough and running nose, during the day he's fine, coughing and smiling straight after, but at night he woke up coughing/crying and he need some cuddles to go back to sleep, it's not pleasant for him, neither for us.
He also got a sore bottom, maybe due to the next teeth.
Food wise, Arthur eat very well, he like very much the food we do, thanks to the babycook. This week he had potatoes+cauliflower, potatoes+tomatoes+artichoke, chicken+tomatoes+green bean+pasta and for dessert apple+orange, pear and petit filou, apple+grape+blackcurrant. He also enjoy cheese, chocolate snack-a-jack, toast (yes we are living in England
) and sultana finger cakes.
So food wise, Arthur has NO problem.
Mobility, Arthur is 'commando' crawling very well on a carpet not that good on slippery surfaces, where he go backwards
Here are some Fiona's quotes from Arthur's log :
- Arthur may not be able to crawl yet, but he gets where he wants to be!
- Quite a lot of wind - from both ends today.
- He really likes music and laughs at me dancing round the kitchen!

WeekEnd summary
Par Marc le lundi, octobre 30 2006, 23:27 - Week-end
Friday
Afternoon we went food shopping so we could breath some fresh air. We bought, for Arthur two jars: carrots & sweetcorn and apple & banana, for us: breaded sole fish (for homemade Fish&Chips), mince burgers and a pork shoulder joint (to cook with lentils).
Back home Arthur had his bath, now that he can sit, things are different I can put more toys around him but that's useless he only want to play with the bath sink and the cord
Then drying, pyjama, bottle-feed, kiss-kiss, night-night.
We stayed up until 2:30am watching TV shows with Suzanne, Bree, Hiro, the Petrelli's brothers, Mia, Isabel, ... at the end Marie was worried to mix up stories and characters
Saturday
I got up late (how come?!) took care of Arthur : nappie-change, breakfast, playing. Around eleven we continued the solid food training, I put him on my lap and gave him a spoon or two of Carrots & sweetcorn, he enjoyed it so much that it ended as a halloween make up
At the end 60gr of food in baby tummie and 20gr spread on his face, his white body (changed 30min ago), my arms and my pyjama. It was for sure a SUCCESS !! Thomas Sechet was right, parents need to be patient, no need to worry just keep trying.
After came the cleaning and believe me carrots puree is difficult to remove from baby nostrils !!
We then got ready for the halloween party with Arthur and Marie's Aquanatal friends, it was nice to meet mummies and babies I have heard off for the past 8months and to talk with the men
After the party we went to Currys to look for a new washing machine, they all look the same and the hot/cold fill one are not easy to find. We even read that cold fill is better for the environment, which I don't understand because cold fill mean using more energy to warm up the water, anybody can tell me what is right, thanks ?
Back home, Arthur had his bath with Marie while I was cooking our Fish&Chips. We put Arthur to bed, had our dinner and I went straight to bed exhausted by the week I had.
Sunday
I got up around 7:00 with Arthur, no nobody told him about the time change !! I took care of Arthur, gave him some apple & banana puree, this time I sat him on the table and it was much easier. This time I put him a bib and he helped me by removing his thumb before putting the spoon in his mouth. Arthur and I had a webcam/chat with our french friends, the connection was so good that we woke up Marie, she thought that our friend was in the house
I then left for a terrific squash game, came back to catch up with our us-uk-ozie friend.
Lunchtime, we had the excellent mince steak with a salad and Arthur had a quater of an apple. I setup Arthur's wooden high chair, sat him in and we looked at him very happy in his throne. I did a quick grass cut before going to the swimming pool (at 4, impossible to do that in France). Straight from the swimming pool entrance Arthur was very excited, I was impressed as it was the second time at this swimming pool. We had a nice swim and Arthur now splash while moving his legs when "swimming" on his front. Next time Marie will stay aside so she can take picture of us, if it's allowed.
Back home, no bath, pyjama, feed, kiss-kiss, night-night, end of the weekend.
Thanks to have read until here, hope you enjoyed it as much as we did

Swimming together
Par bloucox le samedi, octobre 21 2006, 17:37
We just came back from the swimming pool where we went for the first time all together. Because I already went to baby aqua with Arthur, I showed Marc what he can do with him in the water. They had a great time and now they are both sleeping like angels.
Unfortunately, we don't have any picture of that as we don't have a waterproof camera yet.
In the solid food subject, Marc gave him twice some apple puree yesterday and he ate it without problem. It's maybe something with me that I am doing wrong. We'll see in the next episode.

Solid Food
Par bloucox le jeudi, octobre 19 2006, 11:29
What an adventure!!!!
Sunday I prepared with all my love some apple puree, you should have seen his face. I tried myself and it was a little bit too acid, fair enough, he had a point. Monday I prepared some mashed carots, he pretended to struggle himself, what an actor!!! In the afternoon I tried banana, he made the same face that the apple puree (no seriously, who thinks banana is acid!!!) and started again with his act of struggling!!!!!!
Tuesday, desperate (not houswife, but mum!!) I bought an apple puree for his age. Same funny face. Hurrah it's not my cooking the problem!!!
Yesterday I tried mashed patatoes and he just put his thumb in his mouth to stop me putting the spoon in it!! Clever. In the afternoon, I gave him again the commercial apple puree and when he saw the spoon empty he directly put his thumb in his mouth. OK the message was clear.
I know he is still teething and he has a cold, but I wonder if he will get interested by solid food one day. He is not finishing his bottle and he is waking up at night (two things unusual for him), so I try to not being worried and keep trying. If you have any advice for me, don't hesitate to post a comment or send me an email.
Other news of the week: he sat without support for at least 2 minutes yesterday. We have a great video of this. I will try to put it on the blog as soon as possible.
